My Journey to wellness...

I can't believe I am actually blogging. I am not a writer mostly because I am not good at it. I don't enjoy writing and therefore its one of the only things in life that I procrastinate with. But Ive decided that blogging may not only help me on this journey, but help others going through the same thing. The worst
part of this is I feel alone. I know that by sharing my experiences, I may be able to help someone not feel this way. I need to fill you on the boring background in order to tell you where I am today and why I am going to such drastic measures to feel good.

I have been on a journey the last 6 months that lead me to today. To make a very long story short...I have been dealing with stomach issues my whole life. I think that when I was younger, it was more of a nervous stomach but nonetheless, limited me from doing things. It got really bad after I got married and the stomach "issues"(pain, nausea, burning, gas, bloated) got worse. It got to the point where those issues lead to anxiety/panic attacks. My stomach would hurt, my mind would focus on it making my belly worse and that would make me worry more... it would be a huge back and forth between my gut and my mind.

So I did what any person would do, I saw a gastro. We did every test under the sun-endoscopy, ultra sounds, digestive tests, gall bladder--you name it. They came up with nothing. I finally went to Johns Hopkins and saw a doctor who was both a gastro and a psychiatrist. Didn't make sense to me either. But there is a direct link from your mind to your gut... The doctor did some really bizarre tests (too embarrassing for print) and basically told me that I had a motility issue- and that he was going to put me on an antidepressant and something to relax me (klonipin). I didn't take the antidepressant but the other med did help relax me and my gut.

SO I survived over the years eating very bland...I just learned to deal with the issues. I would eat the frozen yogurt and get the severe bloating after. It was worth it or so I thought. Many foods I ate triggered noticeable reactions but it didn't stop me. I dealt with fatigue all the time that never slowed me  down for one minute. I walked around in a fog a lot-it was very hard for me to focus but again, you wouldn't know it by watching me.  I didn't realize the continued eating things that my system did not agree with would cause further issues.

This summer I took the best vacation ever. I went to Canyon Ranch in Lenox Ma. My husband and I love fitness, eating well, and just the atmosphere you have there. It was a vacation that I knew would be relaxing but I decided it was time to focus on my health. I wanted to focus on feeling good--because after years and years of feeling not right, my symptoms started to get worse. My adrenal glands were fatigued beyond relief. The headaches were consistent...so I would pop advil like candy. By the way, I am sure the advil did not help my stomach. And my sleep was disturbed which required me to take things to help me sleep. And lastly, my stomach would get so bloated that I looked 8 months pregnant.

I learned something very interesting at Canyon Ranch (they have lectures during the day and I took almost all of them) I learned that when you eat things that you are "allergic" to or things that your body cannot tolerate, it causes inflammation. With time, that inflammation can cause disease, like cancer, heart disease etc...I also have an autoimmune disease which at this point is stable. (hashimotos which is a thyroid disease) By continuing with the habits I have, I was headed for disease.

I took a ton of blood work at the Ranch. I also was tested for parasites, yeast, bacteria....you name it. And I was test for food intolerances. The results of that blood work came back that I am intolerant to gluten, dairy, eggs and some other random foods. I tried eliminating those from my diet and although I felt a little better, I still had so many of the above symptoms and they were becoming unlivable. (if I am being honest, I really was only about 75% there but I thought that was great)

Brings me to present day...I started with a new dr a month or so ago. He is a chiro--but  he specializes in helping people who can't seem to get help from regular drs. He gave me a whole host of blood tests and he insisted I use a lab called cyrex which has the most accurate gluten tests. Mine came back that I have leaky gut  and I have a huge gluten intolerance.

At this point, I am desperate to feel better and I have to trust that dealing with this leaky gut will help me on so many levels. He told me I have to go on the repairvite detox diet. I am sure you are saying "what?" Basically for two weeks, I have to be on a very strict diet to basically clear out my system. To supplement, he gave me a powder that I have to drink once a day to help my system get balanced. Instead of telling you what I can't eat (list is too long) I will tell you what I can.

*Most Veggies (no potato, tomatoes or mushrooms)
*Meats
*Fermented Foods (mixed pickle, pickled ginger, sauerkraut)
*Low gyycemic fruit (apples, pears, cherries, berries)
*Coconut, Herbal tea, Olive Oil

THATS IT. My first thought was, I cannot live without coffee. I cannot live without a sweet. I cannot live without my corn chips. But then again, I cannot live with feeling this way. I did get him to agree to let me have brown rice and he only agreed because I was not reactive to it.

Despite the fact that I had a cup of coffee on the way to the dr, and a cup of chex mix cereal (mmm), I was committed to doing the diet, no matter how hard it was. My husband and I spent the day at the supermarket buying things that I can eat (go ahead you can laugh because there is not much that I can buy) He also spent the day making me lunches for the week (salad/grilled chicken) and cutting up fruits and veggies to snack on. I also drank the mix...not sure why I thought it would be clear and tasteless. It was not very good

I can tell you that Day 1 is tough. I am tired and cranky. I am bloated like you wouldn't believe because I think since I have only had veggies, fruit and a little chicken/rice , my belly is not happy. I keep thinking how am I going to get through my work day tomorrow and think about making decisions when all I keep focusing on is what I can't have. Food is occupying all my thoughts. That and coffee-and I did try tea today (no truvia and honey allowed) and it was not the same.

But hoping that everyday gets easier and easier. For now, my goal is to stick to this...try and vary what I eat as far as proteins. And get through the detox period because I know its going to be tough.

I will apologize now to my family and friends because unfortunately, you have to live with me during the next two weeks.

  2. This is exactly what I am going through right now. I have Hashimotos since 2008 and had stomach\digestion issues long before that. It took me nearly 5 years to find that I have leaky gut. Chiro Dr. says my gut is pretty bad and I need to be on the Repairvite diet for 6 months to a year. It was very hard in the beginning to follow the diet but after a month it started getting easy. My husband and I know exactly what to buy when we go shopping. I am also following a Gluten Free diet since Hashimotos patients are required to be gluten free. I learned so much in the past 5 years about this disease that I try to educate people whenever I can. What we put in our bodies makes a big difference especially when your body can't tolerate them. At this point I am not sure if my stomach issues caused my Hashimotos or vice versa but hopefully with God's help I am on the path to feeling better and winning Hashi's symptoms especially fatigue lately.

  3. I did the Repairvite cleanse last year November/December and felt AWESOME. I did start to "backslide" into some unhealthy eating habits (it's hard to cut out all gluten!) but I didn't go back to coffee and dairy. I was a former vegetarian, so I ate a TON of cheese; I thought I was doing the right things for animals and the planet, but with the amount of dairy and soy I was ingesting, I was not healthy. I am going to start the Repairvite program this week and I am very excited! Remember to reward yourself for a job well done, and if you fall off the band wagon, just get back on and keep going.

  4. As I was reading your blog, I felt like you were speaking about me. Even though I don't have everything you mentioned (ex. Hashimoto's), I've always had problems with digestion. About 2 years ago I had a bunch of blood work and did a colonoscopy, I was told I have Chron's disease. It was so hard to understand since I've never drank, smoked and ate pretty healthy all my life. I was 25 at the time and it felt like my whole world turned upside down. Also, I've had anxiety for as long as I can remember, but never wanted to take medication since I try to do everything natural and holistic. I did homeopathy for 2 years, it did help me, but I still felt like I was not 100% better. I was still having issues with digestion, anxiety and lack of energy. A few weeks ago, I went to a Chiropractor, that also practices homeopathy and nutrition, and he recommended I do the Repairvite Diet. I am currently on day 2 and it's been quite tough, not as hard as I imagined, but it seems like all I think about is food and if I'm going to be able to get through this detox. I appreciate you posting your story and hope you were able to do well on it. I'm hoping by day 14 I will have made it and am feeling better!

  5. I'm curious to hear how it went. My chiropractor is having me do 3 weeks of ClearVite and 3 weeks of RepairVite. It seems like the program should help.

  6. I am wondering how your diet went as well. I have been trying to get on this diet for a couple of months now, and just can't seem to do it. The powder smells, and tastes like throw up, and I feel like I am starving. After a couple of days I end up bingeing and then feeling very sick afterwards. I have Hashimoto's as well, plus Gluten intolerant. I have yet to come across any success stories. All I see are stories about how hard it is and how everyone is just trying to do better with it. If it is impossible to follow, then why put people through this. If you have any encouraging words,I would love to hear them, because right now I am ready to stop trying.

  7. I'm so happy you made the decision to blog and lead a healthier lifestyle! I know it's hard, I'm 20 and I've already quit drinking/smoking. All the boy's I've date are running in the opposite direction when they realize I don't eat 90% of the foods they eat. Oh well. I trust that the universe support my life.

  8. @ Aurora I am doing this for autoimmune disease which is currently manifesting as alopecia. My motivation comes from knowing that my life won't be like this forever, and it could be much worse. My health effects everyone I come in contact with, I want the best for them and myself. You can do it! You must do it!

  9. Thank you for posting this! I just started the RepairVite diet 3 days ago... and I'm struggling. Day 1 was terrible. Day 2 was bad. Day 3 I started to have courage... but today was awful. I am sick of eating veggies and the same meat. Do you have any recipes that you tried and liked?

  10. Hey guys! I've n
Been taking Repairvite for a few days now and it's rough! I'm having a terrible start, not following the recommended diet but getting there. My chiro told me I will need 2 jars worth of this stuff to repair my ulcers. I also started eating manuka honey which I read about a while back. We will see!

Anyway, I discovered this online and wanted to share for those of you that are looking for meal ideas. I was told to eat 5 meals/day and to not go more than 2.5 hrs without eating, Not used to that! But i've been doing that part...just not with the recommended foods. I did cut milk out completely..and coffee, which is huge for me. I started drinking almond milk...which is delicious. One day at a time...

  11. Hi guys,
I just stumbled onto this blog and I have to say, that I too have been diagnosed with Hashi's. In Sept I did Repairvite and finished Clearvite in Oct. (RV/CV)

    Day one SUCKED!

But I followed the whole thing cold turkey for the entire protocal! And I can NOT believe how much better I felt!
In Nov and Dec I went back to eating "normal" and didn't watch anything that I ate. I FELT LIKE HELL! I totally believe I will never go back to eating badly again.
I had heartburn for the whole two months and bloated at the thought of food. I think my doc broke me. I can't eat anything that isn't "good" for me. Which in a way is good, cuz as most of you know or may have experienced with Hashi's, I couldn't lose weight to save my life!
Well, I DID with RV/CV! 25lbs. so far and I am now back on a RV/CV, Glysen-Synergy, GlycemoVite and Electro-pH Complex cocktail as well as Resvero and Turmero, X-FLM. I am looking forward to feeling better as I get back on the diet and eating healthy again.

As for your first few days on RV you WILL get to where it's easier and almost a great challenge to find good foods to eat.
I found in the late summer that I loved taking cut up apples and grapes to the movie and didn't feel a bit self conscience about snacking in the theater while everyone else was stuffing their faces with candy and popcorn. =)

If you're able to see my AIM screen name, feel free to message me if you have any questions. I may not be able to answer them but I'll try!

If you want encouragement, LET ME KNOW! I'd love that too. =)
Good luck all. YOU CAN do this! You spent your life causing the issues with your guts, it won't take that long to fix it, just hang in there. ;)

  12. Hi guys, I have the same stuff going on as well and my chiro put me on the Clearvite/Repairvite diet last year.

I'm so curious how it's working out for Stacey, and I'm also very happy to run into some other people here in the comments.

I'm a weirdo, I guess, because I found I really liked the Repairvite powder. I guess I've tried enough really gross things over the years (like psyllium cleanses) and I don't eat sweets, so to me the powder tastes like candy. And I love licorice, which I think is part of its herbal base.

The diet really does help immensely if you can get through the first few days. Were you able to hang in there? I saw a lot of improvement but I'm still juggling things a bit... it's a slow process, it seems, but really worth it. Between the leaky gut and the yeast, I have trouble staying symptom-free, but overall I've experienced a marked improvement in the 6 months I've been working with this.

@Medusa, I just started taking manuka honey this year. How are you taking it? I started using it when I was coming down with strep and it got me back on my feet very quickly instead of having to use antibiotics. But I've heard rumors about it helping the gut, so I've been using it daily. Can you give any more info about what protocol you use with it? Do you know whether it will cause candida to proliferate?

@Deb, I would love to hook up somehow and find out more about the other supplements you listed. I eat extreeeeemely cleanly (no dairy, no sweets or sweeteners, no refined, no processed), but still find the Clearvite diet difficult. There are things permitted that I still seem to react to (like sweet potatoes), so by the time I strip down to just what I can eat, I can't seem to get enough nutrition/calories. I'd love to get to the bottom of it and move forward even more. I'm a determined "fixer", so would be interested in any tips or tricks that would help me tweak what I'm doing.

Stacey, if you're still around on your blog, let us know how it went? It's really normal to end up trying various things, so don't feel bad if this didn't work out on the first try. How has your journey been? You can do it!

Reading about you people's experiences is a big help! Thank you all for sharing. Encouragement and accountability is such a positive force. :)))

  13. Hi everyone! I'm so grateful someone did a blog post on this, and grateful for all of your comments! I just started Repairvite yesterday, and I'm already so cranky and depressed, because of all the food I can't eat. It's encouraging to read other stories and experiences and not feel alone.
    Thank you!
I'm also wondering if I'll be able to stick to this plan. The Chiro told me I need to be on it for 8 weeks, which seems like an eternity right now.
Any advice and recipes are welcomed!
Good luck to you all, hope you are feeling better.

  14. Hello everybody. While i was reading your blog all symptoms matched mine. Ive had them for 4 years till i met dr stephen waters and got the right tests done. Leaky gut, some candida overgrowth and parasites all cause i had long periods of antibiotics in the past. Anyway the best help i can give is to start with the candida diet for a month except the eggs and the coconut flour since those cause irritation. And there are tons of recipes in thecandidadiet.com its the same as leaky gut mostly so you can print them and make a food plan for the two weeks or more you need. The best place to get the cleanest products (without so many preservative and processed things) its in pantry store. Im thinking of never try grains again and dairy. The diet took away 85% of all my symptoms. Im still a bit tired and some pains in the head or back sometimes but being possitive helps a lot. I think i still have die offs of candida. Anyways, it was hard the first three weeks but i can do things and feel better so i wish the same to all of you. Stay possitive and control what you eat and you will be free.

  17. I'm glad I found you all. I feel like the Repairvite and supplements may not be a good match. I swear, something in me tells me the enzyme supplements are causing me some upset and burping...could that be true? Does anyone else feel like the enzymes cause problems?

  18. One of the easiest decision I have ever made was when I accepted to get married to a man I thought was my soul mate, my lover for 2yrs. He was the most handsome and honest man I have ever encountered, he was so kind respectful to me and my entire family. He gave me the reason to spend my entire life with him. I enjoyed 3yrs of love and sweet romance as his wife before the devil came into our home, his ex-girlfriend worked voodoo on him, she made him show me the bad side of him and also caused our divorce. The most annoying part was when she tried to take my life spiritually and physically, fighting to ensure am thoroughly erased from my husband before she takes over. It was getting tensed till the extent that I couldn’t sleep both day and night because she must be there to trouble me.Story short, I used the only available options left which was prophet ogidi a{MIRACLECENTER110@GMAIL.COM} before I lose everything including my life. Prophet ogidi was the last option because every other sources failed and his love spell worked wonders after 7days which saw the evil lady flee from us with immediate effect, the divorce case was reconciled within days as well.Since after the spell, I finally knew how to treat wicked and jealous people and a whole new lot of thing from prophet ogidi Happiness and joy has been in abundance in my family for the past 8months after the love spell.you can also call/whatsapp him at 2348182260982
